Line valley with waterproof backing. You will need to get some waterproof surfaces, such as water Shield, from your local home improvement store to provide an extra layer of waterproof protection. Be sure to start with the lower volume ceiling plane, which is draining the smallest amount of water into the valley. Restart shingles. Lay shingles on the lower volume ceiling plane first with a hammer and 4/3 inch roofing nails. Add the shingles through the center of the valley, and at least 12 inches higher volume ceiling plan. Press firmly when you add shingles in the valley to prevent butting up, or bridging of the 3 tab roofing shingles.

Chalk a guideline. After adding the 3 tab roofing shingles through the valley you will want to chalk a guideline. Lay shingles along your chalk line. Take a few shingles and place them diagonally along the chalk line. You will want to put them directly into the roof cement. Be sure to start at the eaves edge. You will just want to make a row of shingles. Lay shingles on higher volume ceiling plan. Use the diagonal valley row of shingles as a guide to place the shingles on the higher volume ceiling. You can chalk lines as a guide from the valley to higher volume flat roofs.
